Finding a Patient

Individual patients can be found in the application in a number of ways. Patients may be part of a group of patients (e.g. shown in the MDM list for a particular HD unit) or can be found using the Search area at the top left of most screens. Any of the patient’s numbers (hospital number or NHS number) can be entered into the field and then when Enter, the patient is found – this Search is not ‘fuzzy’ so the number needs to be entered exactly.

Patients can also be found using their Family Name and Given Name (e.g. Smith,Jeffrey) or part of the name (e.g. smi, jef) and the application will find and display any patient who fulfils the entered criteria. The Search is not ‘fuzzy’ so smith will find Smith, Smithe and Smithson etc but not Smythe. The name search is not case-sensitive.

Note: For patients whose family name contains a space, enter the first part (before the space) followed by a space or comma then full or partial given name. E.g. for a patient named Al Hasmi, Mohammed enter AL MOH or AL,MOH or al moh.

Once the list of matching patients is displayed (with hospital numbers, sex and date of birth), clicking on the desired patient’s name will open the Clinical Summary screen for that patient.
