Lesson 11
Letters
Letters can be created from Clinic Visits or separately either as a Clinical Letter (so displays Problem List, Medications and recent pathology results) or as Simple Letter. All letters have a section for free text and this can be populated from Snippets (pre-defined text which can be customised by each user or shared between different users).
Once a letter has been drafted (user needs to select the Letterhead (e.g. to indicate a particular hospital) and Letter type (e.g. Haemodialysis Clinic)), the letter can be saved – called ‘Pending Review’. Draft/Pending Review letters will appear automatically on the Author’s and the Typist’s dashboard. Letters can then be reviewed by the Author and signed off; the Author is warned when Signing Off a letter that this step cannot be undone as the Letter will then be sent, for example, automatically to the GP surgery.
Once a Letter is Signed Off, its status is changed to Archived, the letter will disappear from the Author and Typist’s Dashboards and it will now appear in the list of Letters for Printing. Once all appropriate copies are printed, the Letter status changes to Completed.
